Wallpaper* October 2011 – Homer Chou of IT Mall Beijing
October 15th, 2011Earlier this summer I had the chance to photograph Homer Chou and his team at the IT mothership in Beijing for Wallpaper. You can see the results in the October 2011 issue here: Wallpaper Oct 2011 – Homer Chou IT Beijing
Homer and his team were game for any and all ideas that I had, so it made my job easy. The only tricky part was all the reflections in the window because we had very little space to work with and the walls were shiny metal – so if you look carefully you can see the my Pocket Wizard hanging off the light on the left of the opening shot.
I need more of your help! Which Portrait do you like?
September 8th, 2011I need more help from everyone out there – which portrait (if any!) do you love? Can’t decide? Tell which one(s) you like. Or if you really don’t like one tell me that too!
Ning Li – CEO & Founder of Made.com for Time Magazine
December 1st, 2010For the last three and a half months I was trapped in Asia. Well, trapped isn’t entirely accurate – the phone wouldn’t stop ringing so I kept changing my plane ticket back to New York.
One of the last shoots that I participated in when I was in Asia was a portrait of Made.com’s CEO Ning Li for Time magazine when Ning was in Shanghai. And that portrait hit stands last week (Nov 29 International Edition for those of you dashing out the door right now).
So I just wanted to share this portrait with you (and link to the full pdf here: Made.com CEO Ning Li)
Made.com uses crowdsourcing to design its furniture – soliciting designs from professional designers and then letting users vote for the best designs. Of those best designs a handful are then put into production. But I digress. I will let you read the article.
Istanbul Portrait
June 22nd, 2010In the Fall I travelled to Istanbul to photograph the Dream Team for that city – a collection of four of Turkey’s foremost taste makers.
We decided to shoot them at İzzet Çapa’s (one of the four) club, Joke Perestroyka. Joining İzzet, were Mihda Koray (gallerist), Sefer Çağlar (interior & product designer with Autoban), and Müge Ersin (fashion designer).
They all knew each other, so it made my life very easy — getting them to have fun and interact was a cinch.
We shot in three different locations in the club, but having a great editor (this was for Conde Nast Traveler) meant that this particular frame was the keeper.
A good editor always makes your work look better. Thank goodness for that.
You can take a look at the end result here: Conde Nast Traveler – Word of Mouth – May 2010 – Istanbul Dream Team
