Chalet Etoile, an on-slope restaurant in Cervinia, Italy, on the opposite side of Zermatt, Switzerland, and in the shadow of the Matterhorn. Founded in 1974 and run by Swede Ulla di Frassy and her team of Swedish waitresses and servers, Chalet Etoile is an on-mountain institution of fine dining. Enjoying a meal and drink inside the chalet with one of the resident german shepard dogs to keep you company.

The chef who started it, Luciano, claims to be the first person to have cooked pasta on the mountain back in 1969. The dishes are all served on paper or plastic as there is no running water. Only 24 rooms and family owned and run by Ludivico Bich offers free shuttles to the slopes just 10 minutes away. The wine cellar is spectacular, with a serpentine rock sweating water and cool air in the middle, and the food unsuprisingly divine.
