Baganuur Mine, Mongolia’s largest coal mine, an open-pit strip-mine affair some 139 km east of Ulan Bator. Started in 1978 by the Russians the mine provides Ulan Bator with 70% of its coal, and the country as a whole with 50%. It has a capacity to produce 3,000,000 tonnes/year, and employs 1100 workers. The mine is 75% owned by the Mongolian government.

The Walk of Health was inaugerated by former president Saparmurat Niyazov (aka Turkmenbashi - Leader of the Turkmen People) and is a set of concrete steps set into the mountain that you can go for a nice 37km hike in 50C weather.
